Assessing the environmental impact of IT with open source tools: feedbacks

CONFERENCE DELIVERED IN 🇫🇷 – The environmental impact of digital technology is a major concern, but assessing this impact in a simple, accurate, and automatic way using open source tools remains a challenge. Some tools address this issue in part, but there are still gaps in their integration into an easily usable solution.
Feedback on such a solution will be presented by its advanced users. This solution, the GLPI Carbon plugin, links GLPI, a recognized open source IT asset management tool, with environmental impact assessment tools, notably Boavizta tools. Using open data (carbon intensity of electricity), Carbon presents the environmental impacts (manufacturing and use) of a heterogeneous IT fleet via dashboards.
This feedback has made it possible to improve Carbon and propose developments, including the impact of cloud services, connection to the scaphandre tool, and simulation of the evolution of an IT fleet.
