2026/01/08
At the 2025 edition of Open Source Experience, held on December 10 and 11, 2025, the Acteurs du Libre awards revealed its winners during a ceremony at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris. This initiative is led by the CNLL (Union of Free Software and Open Digital Enterprises), the representative body for the free software sector in France, bringing together over 200 companies specializing in open source.
Now a must-attend event for the French and European open source ecosystem, the awards honor companies, projects, and associations that actively contribute to the development and promotion of free software and open, innovative digital solutions each year.
The competition celebrates projects and companies demonstrating excellence, innovation, and commitment in open source. Six awards were presented this year across various categories, showcasing the diversity and richness of the ecosystem.
Best Open Source Strategy Award: Thales
The Best Open Source Strategy Award went to Thales for its remarkable efforts to integrate open source culture into a traditionally highly regulated sector. The establishment of an OSPO (Open Source Program Office) and the company’s active contributions to the open source ecosystem have confirmed its strategic commitment to transparency and innovation.
Commercial Development Award: XWiki
The Commercial Development Award was awarded to XWiki for its exceptional growth in France and internationally. With solutions adopted by major organizations such as RTE, Lenovo, Amazon, and the European Parliament, XWiki—and its software CryptPad (with over 200,000 monthly users)—demonstrate the commercial strength and impact of open source in the professional world.

Public-Private Collaboration Award: Paris Rectorate and Vittascience
The Public-Private Collaboration Award was presented to the Paris Rectorate for its exemplary partnership between its educational platform Capytale and the digital services company Vittascience. Capytale, an open source platform dedicated to scientific and digital education, embodies the philosophy of open digital with educational resources published under free licenses and collaborative governance.
Open and Ethical Digital Award: Murena
The Open and Ethical Digital Award went to Murena, creator of the e/OS mobile system, a sovereign alternative to Android. Murena stands out for its commitment to data protection, transparency, and user respect, embodying an ambitious and responsible vision of digital technology.
Jury’s Special Award: APRIL
The 2025 Jury’s Special Award was given to the association APRIL for its radio show “Libre à vous”, broadcast on Cause Commune. Since 2018, APRIL has worked to promote and democratize free software, helping to raise public awareness of the importance of digital freedoms.
European Award (in collaboration with APELL): Mockoon
The European Award was granted to Mockoon, a Luxembourg-based startup specializing in the rapid creation and execution of REST APIs. With thousands of active users worldwide, including Amadeus, Booking.com, and Vodafone, Mockoon exemplifies the entrepreneurial and community spirit of open source on a European scale.

The winners were selected by a jury composed of open source ecosystem leaders, member companies of CNLL’s regional associations, government representatives, and previous award winners. The jury changes each year to ensure a fair and representative evaluation of innovative initiatives.
